Road expansion project in Kathmandu from Tripureshwor-Nagdhunga affects 10 thousand indigenous Newar and other communities in Kathmandu. The project allegedly violates rights to Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) and participation of the affected communities. Affected communities staged protest for long time urging for their participation in implementation process and justifiable compensations. Ironically, the government of Nepal (GoN) deployed around 500 armed police forces to resume the project on 2072 Chaitra 17 (29 February 2016). At that time several pr The community members lodged Complaint to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) asking to monitor the violation of human rights in the project areas. Further, they have also petitioned two separate writs urging protection of human and property rights at Supreme Court (SC). SC issued interim order for both cases on 8 and 26 April 2016 respectively. lahurnip.orgotesters were injured and 4 were arrested.
